AshlandMeadows.jpg Some of the many wildflowers we saw on our hike at Mt. Ashland Meadows. I think these were scarlet gilia.7/13/2003
Shasta.jpg A view of Mt. Shasta from Mt. Ashland Meadows. This hike at Mt. Ashland Meadows was fantastic. There were literally many dozens of wildflowers blloming, as well as many birds and hummingbirds. Very highly recommended.7/13/2003
Meadow1.jpg A meadow near the trailhead to King's Creek.7/15/2003
Meadow2.jpg Halli exploring that same meadow. You could hear the sound of croaking frogs.7/15/2003
Mountain.jpg One of the mountains in Lassen (I forgot which one). Halli liked this one because the rock in the middle looked like a belly button or an eye.7/15/2003
MudPots1.jpg Boiling mud pots in Lassen. Notice also the yellow sulfur deposits on the nearby rocks.7/15/2003
ParadiseMeadow.jpg Paradise Meadow is a beautiful meadow a relatively short hike from Hat Lake.7/15/2003
SulfurWorks.jpg At Sulfur Works in Lassen. The smell of Sulfur was quite strong here, and you can easily see the steam coming from the ground.7/15/2003
SummitLake.jpg Summit Lake from the Summit Lake campground. Curiously this lake is nowhere near the summit. In fact two other lakes alongside the road were higher up and totally frozen over, even this late in the season - Emerald Lake and Lake Helen.7/15/2003
BoilingSpringsLake1.jpg Boiling Springs Lake. This color in this photo is pretty accurate. This lake is fed by numerous fumaroles and vents underwater. The temperature of the lake is about 125 degrees Farenheit.7/16/2003
BoilingSpringsLake2.jpg Another shot of the lake.7/16/2003
BoilingSpringsLake3.jpg One more shot of the lake and the mud pots on the shore.7/16/2003
DevilsKitchen1.jpg Halli entering Devil's Kitchen. Since there was so much snow this year, the main geothermal area of the park, Bumpass Hell, was still closed. Devils Kitchen was pretty impressive on its own, however. A pretty large area of mudpots, steaming vents, stc.7/16/2003
DevilsKitchen2.jpg More from Devil's Kitchen.7/16/2003
DevilsKitchen3.jpg This sign could be seen in many places around the park. This one was at Devil's Kitchen.7/16/2003
MudPots2.jpg Mud Pots at Devil's Kitchen.7/16/2003
TerminalGeyser.jpg Terminal Geyser was at the end of a somewhat long hike (for us!). Probably the most impressive steam vent we saw, it's technically not a geyser. The sound of the steam coming out of the ground is fascinating.7/16/2003
Deer.jpg Deer were seen frequently in the park, especially near dusk each evening where we stayed in the Warner Valley at Drakesbad Ranch.7/17/2003
BurneyFalls.jpg These falls are not really in Lassen, we stopped at Burney Falls in northern CA on our drive back. They seemed to be located in a beautoful park, but since the temperature was right around 100 degrees, we just had a quick picnic lunch in a shady spot and then continued on our drive back into Oregon.7/18/2003
Meadow.jpg This is the same meadow seen in a couple of photos easlier in the week, when it was covered in snow. The day we left the park most of the snow in this meadow had melted.7/18/2003
