Animals1.jpg Adam was very popular with all the animals at the West Coast Game Park Safari. Probably because he was holding an ice cream cone filled with their food.9/21/2007
Animals2.jpg The animals did certainly seem to flock around Adam. One of the goats not seen in this picture actually head-butted him a couple of times in the knee to try and get his attention.9/21/2007
Bailey.jpg There was a baby bear cub named Bailey that we were allowed to pet, as long aas he was distracted with a drink from his bottle.9/21/2007
Sultan1.jpg They had a baby white tiger named Sultan that we were alowed to hold and pet. Just like Bailey, it was ok as long as Sultan had a bottle in his mouth to distract him.9/21/2007
Sultan2.jpg Here's Sultan walking along the counter where we could pet him.9/21/2007
Sultan3.jpg And a close-up of the markings on the back of Sultan's head.9/21/2007
Professor1.jpg Here is a DeBrazza's Monkey that we affectionately dubbed "The Professor"9/21/2007
Professor2.jpg Another photo of The Professor, this time sticking his tongue out at us.9/21/2007
Lion.jpg You know what they say, "Let sleeping lions lay". So we did.9/21/2007
Possum.jpg Here's a possum just hanging out and greeting everyone.9/21/2007
WhatIsThis.jpg We forgot what kind of animal this was. It could have been a coati mundi.9/21/2007
Gulls1.jpg A pair of sea gulls in the surf at Bandon.9/21/2007
AdamSurf.jpg Adam admiring the surf in Bandon9/21/2007
Gulls2.jpg Here are those gulls from a different angle.9/21/2007
Adam.jpg Adam standing on a rock in Bandon9/21/2007
DrivenBack.jpg On our first day in Bandon the wind was quite fierce. None of the pictures really show it that well, but here is Adam getting driven back by the sand getting whipped in his face as he came around a rock on the beach.9/21/2007
Gulls3.jpg A large flock of gulls resting on the beach in Bandon.9/21/2007
Sunset1.jpg The sunset from our room in Bandon on the first night. That's Face Rock on the right of the photo. You can kind of see the face lying back at a 45 degree angle peering up at the sky.9/21/2007
Sunset2.jpg Another shot of the sunset from our room9/21/2007
Sunset3.jpg And another sunset photo. It was a really nice sunset that evening.9/21/2007
Sunset4.jpg Yet another sunset shot.9/21/2007
Sunset5.jpg And another, with the reflection visible in the surf.9/21/2007
Sunset6.jpg This sunset shot came out with some different hues of blue.9/21/2007
Sunset7.jpg One last shot of the sunset, this time with Face Rock on the left of the shot.9/21/2007
ShoreAcres3.jpg Some of the interesting rock formations at shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
ShoreAcres4.jpg Another shot of the rock formations in the surf at Shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
ShoreAcres5.jpg A close-up of the formation. Notice the deep grooves in the rock, I'm not sure what caused that.9/22/2007
ShoreAcres6.jpg More intersting rock formations. This one clearly looks like a hand.9/22/2007
ShoreAcres7.jpg Here's a small cave with the surf rushing in, and a cool old tree on the top.9/22/2007
Otter.jpg Look closely in the lower right on this photo. What appeared to be an otter was scurrying on the rocks here, and this was the best picture we could get of it. A naturalist said they don't have Sea Otters there at Shore Acres, and a River Otter would be unusual. But I don't know what else it could have been. Can anyone else shed some light on this?9/22/2007
ShoreAcres8.jpg Here you can really see the layers of sandstone at Shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
CrunchBerries.jpg Did you ever wonder where Captain Crunch finds those berries for Crunch Berry cereal? We found a tree in Shore Acres where they grow. Who knew?9/22/2007
Fuscia.jpg A fuscia plant overhanging the pond at Shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
Garden1.jpg Here's Adam next to the fuscia and pond at Shore Acres.9/22/2007
Garden2.jpg The pond and Japanese Gardens at Shore Acres State Park. Hard to believe this is only a few hundred yards from the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean.9/22/2007
MagicTree.jpg Notice all the cones on the ground here. This tree had apparently reached the time of year where it drops all it's cones. There was no breeze at all, and yet there were dozens of cones falling down and pelting the path. We looked up to see if there was a monkey or something throwing them down at us.9/22/2007
Garden3.jpg Another shot of the pond and gardens at Shore Acres Staet Park.9/22/2007
Hydrangea1.jpg A closeup of a Hydrangea bush in Shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
Hydrangea2.jpg And here is the Hydrangea plant when not zoomed in all the way.9/22/2007
AdamCedar.jpg Here's Adam leaning on a cedar tree in the gardens at Shore Acres State Park9/22/2007
SeaLions.jpg It's a little hard to see here, but there are hundreds of sea lions and seals in this photo. They are literally climbing over each other at the base of that large offshore rock in the center of the image. You can see others in the water and on some of the other rocks.9/22/2007
Pelicans.jpg Pelicans flying along the coast at Shore Acres State Park.9/22/2007
Whale.jpg This was the one photo we managed to get of a whale. We saw numerous whales from Cape Arago, but because of the lag between when you snap the photo and when the camera actually takes the picture, this was the only photo that came even close to capturing the whale above the surface. Check out the videos I've got on my site for some much better shots of the whales we saw that day.9/22/2007
CapeArago1.jpg In case it's not obvious from the picture, here we are in Cape Arago State Park, a little bit north of Bandon.9/22/2007
CapeArago2.jpg Here's a nice beach at the southern end of Cape Arago State Park.9/22/2007
CapeArago3.jpg One more shot of Cape Arago State Park.9/22/2007
Hook.jpg Here is a hook embedded into a rock on the beach. In the distance you can see the Bandon lighthouse.9/23/2007
Taunting.jpg Here's Adam doing what he love best on the coast - "Taunting the Ocean". He loves to walk right up to the edge of the water, and then have the waves chase him back. And then repeat again and again.9/23/2007
LightHouse.jpg The lighthouse in Bandon. with Adam walking along the beach.9/23/2007
Mist.jpg The mist on the Bandon beach.9/23/2007
Face.jpg This is NOT the famous Face Rock in Bandon, but it's another rock that certainly does resemble a face.9/23/2007
AdamWave.jpg Adam watching a wave come crashing through the surf in Bandon9/23/2007
BandonSurf.jpg A nice shot of the surf in Bandon.9/23/2007
Starfish.jpg A starfish with numerous sea anemones as well.9/23/2007
Elk.jpg At Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area on the way home we saw these elk.9/24/2007
HarborSeal.jpg There were harbor seals, and other sea mammals such as sea lions. I believe this was a harbor seal.10/21/2004
Nodules.jpg On top of some of the bluffs, some strange nodules had formed. I don't really understand how the formed like nodules, certainly some result of the erosional forces at play.10/21/2004
ShoreAcres1.jpg We recently spent a weekend on the southern Oregon Coast in Bandon. A few miles north of Bandon is a very cool park - Shore Acres State Park. Here's a shot of the bluffs that overlook the ocean.10/21/2004
ShoreAcres2.jpg Here's another view in the opposite direction. In the lower left hand corner you can just see the edge of a beach that has a trail leading down to. It's the only place in the park with relatively serene water, as the next few shots will demonstrate.10/21/2004
Splash1.jpg The surf comes in, pounds the coastline, and even on a relatively calm day as this was, generates huge splashes, well above the height of the bluffs.10/21/2004
Splash2.jpg Here's another big splash.10/21/2004
Splash3.jpg And one more. I'm guessing the cliffs to be about 75 feet high, so the spray was reaching as high as 100 feet on the largest waves. I want to come back here during a winter storm to really see the power of the ocean.10/21/2004
Splash4.jpg Here's a good one.10/21/2004
Splash5.jpg Can you tell I was impressed by the waves? This may have been the best photo, I was pretty pleased with how well they came out.10/21/2004
Inland.jpg On the way back from Bandon, we passed this scenic viewpoint from 101 looking inland. I don't recall exactly where this was.10/22/2004
