Kayaks.jpg Looking through our kayaks at yet another calving incident on Marjorie Glacier.6/1/2002
MarjorieGlacier.jpg Marjorie Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. It is a mile wide and 250 feet tall. It's direclty adjacent to Grand Pacific Glacier, which is two and a half iles wide, and almost totally black from debris. It was not very photogenic, nor did it calve very frequently, so our attention was glued on Marjorie.6/1/2002
Splash.jpg Nice splash from calving.6/1/2002
Bear.jpg Bear on the shore returing from Marjorie Glacier. We saw many bears on the shore on the way back.6/2/2002
Bird.jpg Bird on a bergy bit.6/2/2002
Cove.jpg A beautiful cove where we spent our final night on the boat before being dropped off in Sitka.6/2/2002
IceFlow.jpg Ice flow in Glacier NP.6/2/2002
Porpoise3.jpg My final attempt at capturing Dall's Porpoise bow-riding. We had several of them doing it this time, but boy are they elusive.6/2/2002
SeaLions.jpg Stellar Sea Lions in a large colony in Glacier Bay NP, on South Marble Island.6/2/2002
CruiseShips.jpg 3 Large cruise ships were in port in Juneau the day we arrived. Downtown Juneau was crawling with tourists.5/27/2002
AdamRaft.jpg Adam is also prepared to float down the Mendenhall.5/28/2002
BigShip.jpg This is supposedly one of the largest cruise ships. Note the lifeboats hanging on the side. They hold as many people as we had on our entire ship.5/28/2002
CruiseShipWindow.jpg A large cruise ship was viewable outside our hotel window the day we left.5/28/2002
Discoverer1.jpg The Wilderness Discoverer, our home for the next 7 days.5/28/2002
Discoverer2.jpg Front view of our ship. We had 70 passengers and 23 crew on board during our week.5/28/2002
Goldbelt.jpg Just a few minutes after we pulled out of port in Juneau. This is looking back at our hotel (Goldbelt Hotel) and downtown Juneau.5/28/2002
HalliRaft.jpg Doesn't Halli look rugged and adventurous as she prepares for our raft trip. Really, this was more of a float trip, there were just a few small rapids.5/28/2002
Mendenhall.jpg Our cruise officially started with a raft trip down the Mendenhall River, which coincidentally originates from this glacier - Mendenhall Glacier.5/28/2002
BergyBits.jpg At times there were plenty of icebergs here in Tracy Fjord. The small ones are called "bergy bits".5/29/2002
Gulls.jpg Gulls on an iceberg.5/29/2002
Icebergs.jpg More birds on icerbergs. Note how the bergy bits are in various shades of blue, white, and clear..5/29/2002

Kayak1.jpg Adam and Halli preparing for their first time kayaking. Gotta love the yellow skirt Adam's wearing.5/29/2002
Kayak2.jpg Here we are returning from our first excursion in a kayak. These were two person sea kayaks. We had a difficult time "synchronizing" our strokes. Perhaps 1 person kayaks would be better for married couples.5/29/2002
SawyerGlacier1.jpg Our first look at Sawyer Glacier in Tracy Fjord.5/29/2002
SawyerGlacier2.jpg Sawyer Glacier. Note the huge cave in the lower right.5/29/2002

WaterfallCloud.jpg Nice waterfall bisected by a cloud.5/29/2002
Bridge.jpg Wow, that's some bridge.5/30/2002
Lighthouse.jpg An octagonal lighthouse in the channel on the way to Skagway.5/30/2002
Mountain.jpg Some non-glaciated peaks along the train ride to the pass. Note how they are jagged rather than rounded.5/30/2002
SummitLake.jpg Summit Lake at the top of our train ride. Here we turned around and headed back into Skagway.5/30/2002
Train.jpg Our train heading up the mountain.5/30/2002
Trellis.jpg A trellis we went over along the White Pass Yukon River train from Skagway.5/30/2002
Waterfall.jpg A beautiful waterfall en route to Skagway.5/30/2002
Porpoise1.jpg Some Dall Porpoises were "bow-riding". They were absolutley fascinating to watch, but difficult to capture on film.5/31/2002
Porpoise2.jpg Another attempt at capturing one of the porpoises on film.5/31/2002
